It’s a lovely weekend out there. What better way to enjoy it than by taking a look back at our favorite conversations which occurred within the black space of the sunless internet in What’s That You Say? So kick back, put some aloe on that sunburn you cultivated yesterday, and bask in the cool commentalicious goodness ahead.

When it comes to oft-criticized District institutions, Nationals ownership is inching ever-closer to the D.C. Council, the Mayor, and Metro; such a quick rise in their level of disrepute is no surprise, considering the Nats owners have involved themselves in tiffs with all three said agencies this week. Usually, this sort of activity would lead our commenters to a spit-flying hate-frenzy, but most of your responses were surprisingly well measured: take for instance, our Comment of the Week from hillvada, who riffed off the beef between the Nats ownership and Metro to bring an interesting perspective on the overarching discussion about the Lerners’ relationship with the city:

True, but one thing the city never realized in this whole thing was that there is not a single team owner in all of sports that actually wants to see development around the stadium. In fact, most owners will fight tooth and nail to keep even a food cart from opening outside of the gates. Concession revenue is such a big part of the overall financial equation that there is simply no way an owner can support a true “entertainment district” outside of the stadium. Every beer consumed in the hip pub down the block, is one more not consumed inside.

I think the city truly believed that whoever owned the Nationals would act like a full partner with their plans to develop the neighborhood. Instead we get too much parking and a refusal to pay even a pittance to Metro.

After the jump, if Obama is number two, what’s number one? Also: it was obviously “Leave a Comment on the Photo of the Day” week. Oh, and Monkey takes on Guantanamo Bay detainees. That should be fun.
