MUSIC: Travel back to the mid-to-late 1990s heyday of indie rock tonight at Comet Ping Pong. Chain and the Gang, the most recent project from D.C.’s ubiquitous Ian Svenonius, will be sharing the stage with the Hive Dwellers, K Records founder Calvin Johnson’s new outfit. Save for the frontmen, the two bands will feature the same lineup, which includes members of Dub Narcotic Sound System and Old Time Relijun. With tribal noisemakers Mahjongg, $10, 9 p.m.

JAZZ: Chick Corea is back in D.C. tonight at the Strathmore. He’ll perform with the The Five Peace Band, made up of guitar legend John McLaughlin, bassist Christian McBride, drummer Brian Blade, and saxophonist Kenny Garrett. Just a few (rather expensive) tickets remain. 8 p.m.

MUSIC: King Khan and the Shrines bring their grimy garage rock and cape-sporting stage antics to the 9:30 Club for a late show tonight. Mark Sultan (a.k.a. “BBQ”) will open. Tickets are $15, doors at 10 p.m.

MOVIE: The AFI Silver recently began an Alan J. Pakula retrospective, and tonight’s selection is Klute, featuring Jane Fonda’s Oscar-winning performance as a New York City call girl and Donald Sutherland as the P.I. who must protect her. Can’t remember the last time we were able to catch this great film on the big screen. 9:15 p.m.
