Unlike his predecessor, Anthony Williams, Fenty has eschewed the traditional cannonball in previous years, instead tapping a local celebrity or media personality (like NBC4’s Tom Sherwood) to do the honors. So who will jump in the pool this year? DCist doesn’t know and the mayor’s office isn’t giving any clues, just touting ‘DPR’s Mystery “First in the Pool” Guest(s),’ an intriguing plural if there ever was one. The whole thing’s going down at 10:30 a.m. this morning at the Anacostia Pool, located at 1800 Anacostia Drive SE. We’ll bring you more about D.C. public pool openings and hours later in the day.
Tax Office Error Costs $25 Million: The Examiner reports on a new audit that shows that “The District’s real property tax office has failed to collect at least $25 million in fine-derived revenue over the last three years from commercial property owners who did not file legally required reports.” Apparently the tax office has had no system in place for identifying commercial property owners who failed to file. We’re shocked, we tell you, shocked!
Injured Teen Targeted Before: One of the seriously wounded teenagers in Tuesday’s Bloomingdale shooting had been targeted by a spray of gunfire a couple of months before, reports The Post’s Paul Duggan. About 2 1/2 months ago, someone fired more than 40 rounds into the nearby house he shared with his mother. The 18-year-old was shot in the head on Tuesday and was in grave condition last night. Three suspects have been arrested in the shooting, and Chief Lanier has said the shooting appears gang-related.
