Morning, Washington. We start your day not with weather problems (though we did get record-setting rains Monday and Tuesday, we’ll only have light, isolated showers today), but traffic alerts. Those of you procrastinating your commute over the 14th Street bridge this morning might want to get a move on: major construction begins at 10 a.m. today through Sunday, which, we hate to tell you, is only more prep work for the extended two-year long rehabilitation of the bridge. Mayor Fenty Apologizes for Letting Friend Drive Car: Unlike press inquiries into his travel, questions about allowing friend Keith Lomax drive him around in his city-owned Lincoln Navigator must have hit a nerve. The Post has Fenty apologizing yesterday, saying, “I made a bad decision,” but that the law is still up for debate. The Post continues in detail with Lomax’s relationship with the city, including his contracting business getting preference points for being a “resident-owned” and his record of voting in D.C. elections, despite the fact Lomax’s “primary residence” is in Fort Washington, Md. But c’mon, the most questionable part of this whole story is that Lomax was Fenty’s substitute teacher in high school, which bloomed a long-term friendship. Weird.

Nationals, Capitals, Implicated in Steroid Bust: NBC4 reports that in Polk County, Florida, Richard and Sandra Thomas were arrested yesterday in a bust that uncovered $200,000 worth of steroids. Richard Thomas admitted to selling to professional athletes, including players from the Washington Nationals and Capitals, though no names were mentioned. Fox5 notes that Thomas also says he bought drugs from around the world including Iran, Pakistan, Russia and China, with the Florida Sheriff noting, “To me that’s more frightening than his allegations about professional baseball players.”
