BOOK RELEASE: As we mentioned earlier, the 14th and V Busboys and Poets hosts a book release party today for one of our favorite D.C. non-profits: the Capitol Letters Writing Center. The Way We See It: Complete Coverage of the Nation’s Capital From the Inside Out, is a collection of fiction, poetry, essays, and journalism written by students at Cardozo High School about all things D.C. Free, 5 p.m.

MOVIES: It’s looking like a stormy, muggy evening, the perfect kind to catch up on all the flicks you’ve been meaning to see — perhaps, for the second time. Star Trek is now playing at the Avalon, arguably D.C.’s best movie theater. For other ideas, check out DCist film critic Ian Buckwalter’s picks of the week; watch Terminator: Salvation at your own risk, though.

JAZZ: B3 organist Joey DeFrancesco began his career as a teen prodigy, but he is now considered a road tested veteran. He played Blues Alley in 2007, delivering a fine performance. He returns to the club for a four-night stand, beginning tonight. Sets at 8 and 10 p.m., $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge. (There’s other great jazz to be found tonight — check out This Week In Jazz for more.)

DRUNKEN JENGA: The Thursday evening tradition at the Rock and Roll Hotel will at least make for some interesting people-watching, even if you don’t play. Remember: look for the loose bricks, young padawan. Free, 8 p.m. – 2 a.m.

CLASSICAL DISCO: The Music Center at Strathmore has the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Super Pops performing “the disco dance grooves of the Bee Gees to the anthems of Gloria Gaynor.” Uh, okay. If you’ve always been dying to hear “I Will Survive” covered by the BSO, tonight is your night. 8 p.m., $25-$80.
