>> Jazz in the Garden offers a great evening of music this Friday, where DCist faves and Three Stars alums The Young Lions will be performing from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Special guests include violinist Matvei Sigalov and Three Stars alum John Lee. Free
>> The biggest collaborative art show of the year opens today: the ginormous event that is Artomatic. Back for another landmark year – its 10th anniversary – Artomatic promises more of what you’ve come to expect from this come one come all, five-week-long art extravaganza. DCist attended the preview this morning, so we’ll have more detail on this year’s event soon. Doors officially opened at noon, runs til 1 a.m.
>> “D.C. Follows Friday” showcases some of the D.M.V.’s best hip-hop talent. Slated to appear at Axum (1934 9th Street NW) are B. Sheba, Lyriciss, and DJ E-Boogie, among others. Free before 10 p.m./$5 after 10 p.m., 9 p.m.
SATURDAY:
>> There are still a ton of tours open this weekend through WalkingTown DC. Take a walk through Brookland, a cemetary, or even a hop on your wheels for an “EcoTour” bike ride. The full list is here; tours are free but require registration.
>> Head over to the Mall for the rededication of the Lincoln Memorial, as part of the year-long celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Bicentennial. The presentation starts at 2:30 p.m. and includes guest speakers and poets. Free, attendees are welcome to bring folding chairs.
>> The New Gay and Homo/Sonic present Seizure in the downstairs dance floor at Town on Saturday from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. This event promises to be a departure from Town’s usual fare as hard-edged rock, dance punk and retro tunes fill the venue. Seizure will feature peformances from the DC Kings at 11:00 and DJ K La Rock, co-founder First Ladies DJ Collective, at 11:15. Doors open at 9:00 p.m. Admission is $8 before 11:00 p.m., $12 thereafter; 21 and over only; no entry after 2:30 a.m.
>> Conner Contemporary Art opens two shows this Saturday with Like Water in Water, an exhibition of new sculptures and screenprints by Kenny Hunter and The Last Viking, an exhibition of new paintings by Nathaniel Rogers. Meet both artists at the opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
SUNDAY:
>> Bike enthusiasts should head to Clarendon and Crystal City this weekend for the Air Force Cycling Classic, either to join in the races (an amatuer race is on Saturday and a non-competitive race on Sunday), or to watch the athletes from the sidelines. >>”Three Girls and Their Buddy” teams folk chanteuses Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin and the legendary Emmylou Harris up with Buddy Miller for a night full of memorable collaborations and voices at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap. 8pm, $40 in house, $22 lawn
>>Virginia, south of the beltway is well represented at the Black Cat backstage tonight with a growling metal-leaning Forensics and two more experimental fuzzy leaning outfits in Cinemasophia and Ringinger. 9pm, $8.
