READING: Novelist Lisa See makes an appearance at Politics and Prose at 7 p.m. tonight to read from Shanghai Girls, which “tells the story of May and Pearl, well-educated, beautiful Chinese sisters who experience difficulties when their family tries to marry them off to Gold Mountain Men in America.”

THEATER: If you haven’t read our Source Festival preview, do so now. Tonight there’s one scheduled performance of the festival’s “10-minute Plays” at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18. More details here.

MUSIC: Feeling nostalgic? Merriweather Post Pavilion hosts REO Speedwagon and Styx tonight. You know you love “Can’t Fight This Feeling” and “Come Sail Away.” Tickets are $40-$75 and available from Ticketmaster.

MOVIE: The Washington Psychotronic Film Society hosts its regular screening at Warehouse Theater, with tonight’s selection featuring Tom Stern’s 1993 film Freaked, which concerns a South American farm populated by mutant “freaks” who have been transformed by a toxic chemical. 8 p.m., $2 suggested donation.

SPORTS: The Nationals begin their home stand against the Boston Red Sox tonight. The game is mostly sold-out, apart from the really, really expensive seats, but there’s a brisk resale business going on over at Craigslist. The team is of course urging fans to allow more time to get to the ballpark via transit tonight. We’d recommend either catching a Green Line train at a station other than Gallery Place, where Red Line train delays could make for crowded conditions, or taking the Circulator from Union Station. 7:05 p.m.
