MOVIE: Riverfront Reel is showing the ’80s teen classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off tonight in Tingey Plaza. Screening starts at sundown, a bit after 8:30 p.m. Free.
MUSIC: Peter Hadar (NYC), Black Spade (St. Louis) and Wes Felton (D.C.) will be performing at Bohemian Caverns as a part of the HipHopSoulBrothers show. $12 in advance/$15, 7:30 p.m.
PERFORMANCE: The Smithsonian Folklife Festival officially kicked off yesterday, showcasing their three themes for this year: “Giving Voice: The Power of Words in African American Culture,” “Las Américas: Un Mundo Musical/The Americas: A Musical World,” and “Wales Smithsonian Cymru.” The festival itself typically stops running by 5:30 p.m., but two separate events related to the Wales section are on for tonight. There’s a free performance on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage by the Welsh National Opera is at 6 p.m. There’s also a lecture titled Discovering Wales from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. tonight at the S. Dillon Ripley Center. Travel writer Andrew Evans will give a show and tell on the “language, food, music, and often hardscrabble life” of the Welsh. $35.
MUSIC: Dave Matthews disciples might enjoy heading to Sounds in the Square tonight to see Crowded Streets, a DMB cover group. Hopefully they’ll throw in a little Dave Matthews GPS into the mix. Free in Farragut Square Park, 5:30 p.m.
