A packed platform at Metro Center on the Red Line during rush hour on June 25. Photo by Sabine01At the beginning of the month, WMATA scheduled some pretty heavy track maintenance along two points on the Red Line for this weekend. But as you might imagine, Monday’s accident means all weekend track work on the Red Line has been cancelled. The work will be rescheduled sometime later, but in the meantime, Red Line trains continue to single track between Takoma and Fort Totten during rush hour today, with plans about Red Line access along that stretch still yet to be announced for the weekend.
Track maintenance on the Blue, Orange and Green lines WILL go on this weekend, causing 30 minute delays through most of the rest of the system. If you’re in a hurry this weekend, Metrorail may not be your best option.
Blue and Orange Lines:
Bridge maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory station will force trains to single-track between Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28. Not the greatest timing in the world considering the reopening of the original Eastern Market building planned for Saturday.
Green Line:
Previously scheduled rail replacement work between Fort Totten and Prince George’s Plaza will cause single-tracking between those locations from 10 p.m., Friday, June 26, to 11:59 p.m., on Saturday, June 27.
Another section of rail needs to be replaced between Prince George’s Plaza and College Park-U of Md. That work will go on from midnight, Saturday, June 27, to 11:59 p.m., on Sunday, June 28.
