FILM: Finally! Tonight is the first night of the resurrected Screen on the Green. Pack up those picnic dinners and blankets and head down to catch Close Encounters of the Third Kind at 8 p.m. Remember, many people get there as early as 5 p.m. to stake out their territory, so plan accordingly. And if you bring a folding chair, make sure it sits very low to the ground. The viewing space is on the National Mall between between 4th and 7th Streets.

THEATER: Dress up your coffee or ice cream tonight by visiting ACKC (1529 14th Street NW) for their fundraiser to benefit the Theatre Lab School of Dramatic Art’s Send a Kid to Theatre Camp program. Tonight you’ll see local artists perform play readings and solo performances for free between 6-9 p.m.

MUSIC: Fort Reno continues tonight, featuring sometime DCist contributor Merideth Bragg, plus Hey Abore and Troll Tax. Free, 7:15 p.m.

MUSIC: If you’d rather avoid the mosquitoes tonight, head to Black Cat, where the always enjoyable Magnolia Electric Co. will make a stop in the backstage, along with The Donkeys. 9 p.m., $13.

TRIVIA: DC9 has changed quite a bit in the last year. Not only have they started serving food, they’ve also joined the ranks of bars that host a regular trivia night. Every Monday starting at 7 p.m., try your wits at their SMS Trivia Smackdown, where you actually text your answers in to the pub quiz host via cellphone, in an effort to save paper. First prize is a $50 bar tab, and background music is provided by Metal Mayhem.
