LECTURE: Peace Cafe is hosting a discussion with Jeremy Ben Ami, currently the Executive Director of J Street and JStreetPAC, at Busboys and Poets on 14th Street. Ami also served as the former Deputy Domestic Policy Advisor for President Clinton and Policy Director for Howard Dean’s presidential campaign. The lecture is free and open to all. 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

MOVIE: National Geographic Live! Is showing Glorious Exit, a film presented by the All Roads Film Project, D.C.’s Fourth Annual African Diaspora Film Festival (a germination of NY’s African Diaspora Film Festival) and transAfrica Forum. Jarreth Merz, a Swiss-Nigerian actor living in Los Angeles is summoned to Nigeria to follow cultural tradition as a first-born and bury his father, even though he doesn’t know his family in Nigeria, nor have they shown any interest in him before; thus a journey of self-discovery takes place as Merz struggles with his family obligations. At the Grosvenor Auditorium (1600 M Street, NW) at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advanceor at the box office.

MUSIC: Hear a little folk music tonight courtesy Raise up Roof Beams, Koji and Stripmall Ballads at SOVA (1359 H Street NE). $5 suggested donation. Need a ride to H Street? You can pick up a shuttle for free at the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro stop. Buses run until midnight Sunday through Wednesday, and until 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.

ART: Discover the psychological state of both sitter and artist through a gallery led tour of portraits by artists Ivan Albright, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and Alice Neel tonight at the Phillips Collection at either 6 or 7 p.m. Admission is $12.
