WMATA put out its weekend track maintenance schedule this morning, and thankfully the work in store looks significantly lighter than last weekend, when all five lines were affected. Unfortunately the long-suffering Red Line riders will continue to see the worst of it this weekend.

Red Line: Throughout the coming weekend, all Red Line trains will operate only every 20 minutes between Shady Grove and Medical Center. To keep things moving, every other Red Line train traveling in the direction of Shady Grove will terminate at Friendship Heights and return to Glenmont. This altered schedule will be in effect on Saturday, August 8, and Sunday, August 9, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Also this weekend on the Red Line, ongoing tunnel repairs as well as rail and fastener work between Medical Center and Friendship Heights will add delays of up to 30 minutes in that section of the Red Line. Trains will share one track between the two stops from 10 p.m. on Friday, August 7, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 9.

Orange Line: Work replacing crossties between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA will cause delays of up to 30 minutes while trains share one track between those two stops. This work begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 7, and goes until closing (midnight) on Sunday, August 9.

Then on all day on Saturday and Sunday, every other Orange Line train traveling in the direction of Vienna/Fairfax-GMU will terminate at West Falls Church-VT/UVA and return to the New Carrollton.
