THEATER: This year’s Shakespeare Free For All is finally here, though it’s been moved inside to the arguably less festive confines of Sidney Harman Hall. The upside is that the ticket distribution scheme is decidedly less of a hassle: all tickets will simply be distributed beginning two hours prior to curtain, which means tickets for tonight’s 8 p.m. performance of Taming of the Shrew will start being given out at 6 p.m., limited to two tickets per person. Historically, this event is very popular, so you’ll want to get in line as early as possible. Click through for more details on the entire run.
ART: The Phillips Collection hosts another one of their After 5 events tonight from 5-8:30 p.m.. There you’ll find music from DJ Donald Syriani, a gallery talk titled, Disembodied: Fragmented Figures in Painting from the paintings of Cecily Brown, Philip Guston, and Susan Rothenburg, a screening of Bride of Franstenstein, a Mehendi demonstatration, and beer, wine, and food by Geppetto Catering.
MOVIE: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off will be shown at Aslyum at 8 p.m. for free as part of their John Hughes Memorial Film Series.
MUSIC: Bossa Bistro & Lounge hosts two great bands, Baltimore’s Basshound and House of Soul, which will include guest vocalist Niki Lagos, guitarist Matt Balestino, and Three Stars alum Charles Ostle. DJ Navbox will spin between sets and do a live mix of the band while it plays. 10 p.m. $3
READING: Nick McDonell, author of An Expensive Education will be at Politics and Prose tonight to read from and sign copies of his new novel, which is a portrait of personalities that become ensnared in a rogue American operation conducted against a Somalian freedom fighter. Free, 7 p.m.
MUSIC: Great local music lineup at the Black Cat‘s Backstage, with Three Stars alums True Womanhood and Deleted Scenes sharing a bill. Savoir Adore also play. 9 p.m., $10
