Photo by furcafe.Good morning, Washington. DCPS Chancellor Michelle Rhee is the latest to chime in on Mayor Fenty’s latest PR nightmare, defusing the matter by stating that “no rules were broken” when Fenty enrolled his children at Lafayette Elementary School. Rhee refused to confirm or deny, though, that Fenty had hopped any sort of waiting list, telling WTOP that “there are various protocols through which families can get their students into out-of-boundary schools, and all those protocols were followed.” The Post’s report notes that Fenty’s children may have been placed in the out-of-boundary school as a result of a recent amendment to the District’s Municipal Regulations, which allows Rhee to grant “discretionary transfers” if it is “in the best interests of the student, and…would promote the overall interests of the school system.”
Of course, we’re not even talking about this if the Mayor had just said this yesterday, instead of getting defensive with intrigued reporters. But where’s the fun in that?
In other news this morning:
>> Columbia Heights Day is kicking off as I type this — if you’re planning on walking around, be sure to pack an umbrella.
>> Breaking: parking is expensive — especially for college kids who have no money.
>> I suppose that when you have to make a sign that says “please do not pee on flowers,” you’d do well to make said sign as universal as possible.
