Good morning, Washington. Is summer over already? Heaven forfend. It may be the last day of August, but don’t take away our sundresses and swimming pools just yet! Despite the fact that the season technically goes on for another three weeks, the Post has decided that it’s time to look back at this summer already. And what does reporter Martin Weil conclude? Summer of 2009 was “a period that this year embraced the unusual in temperature and rainfall before ending up near the overall norm.” Zzzzz. If you’re going to call the game early, at least make your case a little more interesting than that.

Suspect Arrested in Pizza Mart Killing: D.C. police have made an arrest in the killing of Edgewood Pizza Mart proprietor Shahabuddin Rana, 44, of Silver Spring, FOX 5 reports. The suspect is 26-year-old Shanika Robinson of Capitol Heights, and she has reportedly been charged with first-degree murder. Rana’s body was found by police on Aug. 18, inside the carryout he co-owned with his brother. He has suffered stab and incise wounds and eventually died due to head trauma.

Hundreds Line Up to Visit Ted Kennedy’s Grave: Arlington National Cemetery reopened on Sunday morning after having been closed for Sen. Edward Kennedy’s funeral, and it sounds like a whole lot of people showed up to pay their respects. How many of you watched the funeral procession on Saturday or made your way down to the cemetery yesterday?

Briefly Noted: Silver Spring man found shot to death … Holocaust Museum shooter to be arraigned this week … Small fire inside Embassy of Gabon was intentionally set … D.C. police officer shot in Northeast on Saturday … D.C. police lieutenant gets his job back.

This Day in DCist: Last year, Ward 4 D.C. Council member Muriel Bowser was on The Daily Show, and the year before that, we were alarmed to hear that D.C. firefighters might have been running a prostitution ring out of a city firehouse.
