>> Kev Brown (pictured) is one of the most underrated (and respected) hip-hop producers in the world, having made tracks for De La Soul and Busta Rhymes, and he’s from and based in Landover, Maryland. He recently released a new album, Random Joints, and will be taking the stage at Asylum with J-$crilla, The Five One, DJ Earth 1ne. Free, 9 p.m.

>> Jose James has received a seal of approval from British tastemaker Gilles Peterson for his jazz-tinged vocals and all-around artistry. He’s slated for two shows at Bohemian Caverns. $15 in advance/$20 at the door, 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
