MOVIE: See Trumbo, an award-winning tribute film based on the resilient director, Dalton Trumbo. Trumbo gained notoriety for his screenplays of Exodus, The Fixer and numerous other classics, but also for the jail time he served as a result of his battle against claims of Communism. In jail, Trumbo was forced to write screenplays under pseudonyms until he successfully undermined the blacklist in the 1960s, with Spartacus. Trumbo screens tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington DC Jewish Community Center for $10.
Or take yourself to Silver Spring’s AFI Silver to see Demons in the Garden at 7 p.m. for $10. Part of AFI Silver’s Cinema and Spanish Civil War series, the film portrays the hypocrisy, severity and miseries of a family that achieves economic success in the black market and supports Franco’s dictatorship.
