A Metrobus driver and a bicyclist had a minor collision at the intersection of 14th Street and New York Ave. NW this morning, Metro’s Taryn McNeil confirmed. The incident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. this morning.

McNeil said that WMATA’s preliminary investigation indicated that the cyclist “ran into the bus.” D.C. Fire/EMS spokesperson Pete Piringer said it was his understanding that the cyclist, an adult female, was adjusting her bike on a bike rack when the bus driver somehow ran over the bike. This photo sent in by a reader, in other words, makes it look a lot worse than it could have been.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated for injuries that are not considered serious, mostly neck and back pain, Piringer said.

The bus driver involved in the crash was traveling on route #54, heading north to 14th and Colorado, according to McNeil.

Metro said MPD’s crash unit was investigating, and we have a call in to them for more details on how this collision actually happened. We’ll update when we hear back.

UPDATE 9/16: D.C. police spokesperson Gwendolyn Crump said that major crash was not investigating this incident, speculating that it might have been assigned to the local division.
