MOVIE: Screening tonight at the Avalon Theatre is Disgrace, a film adapted from the acclaimed novel by J.M. Coetzee. John Malkovich stars as David Lurie, a man who encounters danger after getting involved in a mixed-race relationship in post-Apartheid South Africa. 8 p.m.

READING: Join Congressman Barney Frank and author Stuart Weisberg at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue as they share passages from the new biography, Barney Frank: The Story of America’s Only Left-Handed, Gay, Jewish Congressman. $6, 8 p.m.

PERFORMANCE: Renowned German-born choreographer and dancer Nejla Y. Yatkin performs at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage tonight with Wallstories, which “reflects on how physical and political boundaries play an important role in our lives.” 6 p.m., free.
