TALKS: At the National Cathedral, Sen. John Kerry will be joined by a panel composed of Husain Haqqani, Pakistan ambassador to the U.S., journalist and author Rory Steward, and Adi Ignatius of the Harvard Business Review to discuss issues surrounding Afghanistan and Pakistan. 7:30 p.m., $4 (tickets can be purchased online or at the door).

And at the Natural History Museum, celebrate Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday with a multimedia performance by “the singing Darwinian scholar,” Richard Milner, who in addition to singing about science in an array of musical styles, is also an associate in anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History and a contributing editor of Natural History magazine. $23, 7 p.m.

MUSIC: Washington State’s The Gossip return to D.C. tonight for a late show at the 9:30 Club, with Brooklyn’s Men and Apache Beat opening. 10 p.m. doors, $20.

MOVIE: As part of the Green Resources and Sustainable Practices series at the Shirlington Library, American Beer, a documentary following five people who travel by minivan to visit 38 breweries in 40 days, starts at 7 p.m. and is free. Following the screening is a beer tasting across the street at the at the Shirlington Busboys and Poets, where beer writer Chris O’Brien will also sign his book Fermenting Revolution: How to Drink Beer and Save the World.
