Brentwood Road NE is currently closed from Rhode Island Ave. to Saratoga Ave. due to a gas leak, according to District Department of Transportation spokesperson John Lisle. A construction crew working in the area caused the leak when they struck an underground gas line, Lisle said.

DDOT says both drivers and pedestrians should use an alternate route through the evening rush hour. While the road is expected to be reopened by approximately 6 p.m., that timeline could always be pushed back as crews work to repair and contain the gas leak. Use Saratoga Ave. as a detour or take the 9th Street Bridge to reach New York Avenue.
