HIGH HEEL RACE: Tonight is the annual High Heel Race along 17th Street NW, between Church and R. The race itself starts at 9 p.m., but you should get there plenty early to claim your spot on the sidewalk: we recommend arriving two hours in advance, at a minimum. And dress appropriately, because it looks like this chilly rain is going to keep up all night.

LECTURE: Journalist, activist and author of Murder in the Name of Honor, Rana Husseini will speak about honor killings and other violence against women at the 14th Street Busboys and Poets tonight. Free, 6:30 p.m.

MUSIC: At the 9:30 Club tonight, former Uncle Tupelo and Sun Volt member Jay Farrar performs with Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, in what is sure to be a great night of fused talent. John Roderick of The Long Winters opens. Tickets are $28, with doors at 7 p.m., show starts at 8.

MOVIE: As part of the AFI Silver’s 2009 Film Noir Festival, Alias Nick Beal screens tonight at 7 p.m. Directed by John Farrow, the film is a Faustian fable about a man who assists a district attorney willing to give anything to convict a local mobster.
