COMEDY: Sixth and I once again hosts Stella comedians Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter for a night of stand-up at 8 p.m. tonight. Read our interview with Black from one of their previous performances at the venue. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling the Sixth & I box office at 202.408.3100 (with no additional charges) or through Ticketmaster.

MUSIC: Tickets are still available to catch laid-back indie rockers Pinback at The Black Cat tonight. The band is reportedly working on a new album, so new music may well be on the setlist. The Obits open the show. $15, doors 8 p.m.

THEATER: The Round House Theatre in Bethesda is holding a pay-what-you-can performance tonight of their new production of 26 Miles. The play was written by Tony-Award nominee Quiara Alegría Hudes (In the Heights), and is about a mother who takes a cross-country road trip with her estranged daughter. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., tickets are available from the box office only, which opens at 6:30 p.m.

READING: Tonight is the last night of the Hyman S. & Freda Bernstein Jewish Literary Festival at the DCJCC. Author and GW professor Howard M. Sachar of Current Israeli Myths and Realities: The Way to Peace concludes the festival by addressing, “the historic and agonizing dilemma of reconciling small-state security with Great Power diplomacy.” His reading begins at 8 p.m. for $26.50. Youth and member discounts are also available.

SPORTS: Game 1 of the World Series starts tonight, and we begrudgingly admit there are tons of Yankees and Phillies fans living here in D.C. Yankees fans looking to congregate with fellow New Yorkers can find camaraderie at Sign of the Whale, while Phillies fans are welcome at Ventnor Sports Cafe. For the unaffiliated just looking for a non-crappy sports bar to take in the series, we’re usually pretty happy at Nellies, Momo’s or The Ugly Mug.
