- Two AIDS activists were arrested this afternoon after protesting at city hall, both City Desk and WaPo report. Larry Bryant and Matthew Kavanagh of D.C. Fights Back were arrested outside the mayor’s bullpen, where they had marched to demand a meeting with Fenty. That’s one heck of a way to celebrate World AIDS Day.
- Southwest … The Little Quadrant That Could ponders what the Waterfront-SEU Metro station should be called now that Southeastern University is no more. Our vote would be for simplicity, and just go with “Southwest Waterfront.” And considering the current economic climate, we won’t be holding out breath while the city locates some funding to change all of WMATA’s signage.
- Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon was indeed convicted on a single charge of fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary for taking some $600 worth of gift cards, as the Sun extensively reports. “The conviction carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, but prosecutors have not decided whether they will seek jail time.” For her part, Dixon said today she has no intention of stepping down.
- Former Platinum and H2O club owner Abdul Karim Khanu was convicted on tax evasion charges today, and now faces up to 10 years in prison.
