Carjacking isn’t funny. But the two men who stole Julia Corker’s SUV in Chinatown on Wednesday night certainly did their best to provide the public with a little smirk about the incident. If you’ll recall, Corker — daughter of Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) — had a Chevy Tahoe she was driving stolen at Seventh and D Streets NW. Police say that it was a typical diversion crime: one suspect asked Corker for directions, while the other entered on the passenger side, pulled Corker out of the car, and drove off. The post-crime activity? Not so typical. After crossing state lines (always a bright move when you’re stealing cars), DeWalden E. Connor, 22, and Steven O. Alston, 25, sat down for a meal of gorditas and Dr. Pepper at a Taco Bell on 6250 Central Avenue in Capitol Heights. Obviously, they were unaware that the Seat Pleasant Police Department is located practically next door at 6264 Central Avenue. Whoops. Both Connor and Alston will likely be extradited back to D.C., as both already had pending cases for unrelated solicitation and marijuana possession charges.
