Earlier this afternoon, Ward 6 Council member Tommy Wells took to Twitter with the latest on the H Street NE shuttle, which was forced to cease operation yesterday due to a lack of funding. Tweets Wells: “Just spoke with the Mayor re H street shuttle. Very promising.”

That doesn’t even use all 140 characters available for a tweet, much less tell us what’s happening. This writer spoke to Charles Allen, chief of staff to Wells, who explained that Wells caught up with Mayor Adrian Fenty this morning when both attended a ribbon-cutting for the Northwest One Neighborhood Library. According to Allen, the Mayor told Wells that his office was working on identifying a revenue source to replace the District of Columbia Department of Transportation grant that previously funded the shuttle. Allen says that just 15 minutes after that run-in, the Mayor’s office called Wells’s office to say they were close to identifying a funding source.
