Saints 33, Redskins 30 (OT): Only this team would would rack up 455 yards, the first time it’s offense has gone over 400 yards this year, but still blow a ten point lead that late. Only this team would have a kicker miss a field goal from 23 yards which would have sealed the game. Only this team would have a $100 million defensive tackle, who gave the opposition a free timeout when he couldn’t make it through the fourth quarter, talk trash about that kicker after the game. Only this team would win the coin toss in overtime — basically an invitation to go win the game — and have its opening drive ended by a completely screwed up replay decision. Only this team would waste two Devin Thomas touchdowns and a career day by Jason Campbell, and only this team would have a coach who would run a third-string back three times inside the ten in spite of his quarterback’s hot hand. Finally, only this team would be capable of THAT PLAY (and if you watched the game, you know exactly the one I’m talking about.)

Only. This. Team.

Really, what else is there to say?

Pistons 98, Wizards 94: Washington’s big three struggled, shooting but 35% from the field, and the Wizards lost to the Pistons by four on Sunday. For the Wizards, it was the fourth straight game decided by four or fewer points — Washington is 2-2 in those contests. Yesterday’s game was a homecoming for coach Flip Saunders, who was let go as Pistons coach in 2008, despite winning two straight Eastern Conference championships. Suffice it to say, his charges didn’t really give a the kind of effort which would have made his former employers regretful. Oh, and here’s something to chew on: Gilbert Arenas blamed his paltry eight-point performance on the fact that “[t[he building was cold tonight.” Look, I wasn’t there, so I can’t tell if that’s tongue-in-cheek. But in any case, Verizon Center crew — please turn up the heat for Thursday’s game against the Celtics. The team will really need Gil to not be so affected by the atmosphere in that one.
