More Revenue Shortages Predicted for D.C.: Toward the end of the day on Wednesday, the Office of the Chief Financial Officer put out its updated revenue estimate (you can see it for yourself here), and the news ain’t exactly awesome. We’re talking a relatively manageable $17.1 million shortfall this year, but then more like $104 million next year, $186.5 million in 2012, and as much as $277 million in 2013. Michael Neibauer writes it up for the Examiner, and notes that CFO Natwar Gandhi ‘predicts unemployment will peak at 12.4 percent early next year, and weakness in the commercial property sector will last “at least into FY 2011.”‘ Most of the lowered projections can be blamed on reduced tax income for the city.
