Photo by Mr. T in DCIt looks like the predictions have turned out to be true — our area is looking at anywhere from 7 to 14 inches of snow starting late tonight and going into Sunday morning. In fact, the folks at the Capital Weather Gang are already warning of possible delays and cancellations on Monday, which is of no consolation to me since I have the whole week off. Damn it. If you’re in Maryland, stop and give local roads a lick. WTOP is reporting that the State Highway Administration is experimenting with a new molasses-like substance made from sugar beets to treat roads. It’s apparently better for the environment, lasts longer than traditional road salts and tastes delicious. The District already uses it, if any local urbanites are wondering.
Same-Sex Signing Is On: We reported this yesterday, but just as a reminder — Mayor Adrian Fenty will sign the historic legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in the All Souls Unitarian Church today at 10:30 a.m. The church, located at the corner of 16th Street and Columbia Road in NW, strongly advocated for the legislation.
Tickets for Trash in the District: Add this to the already long list of things you can get ticketed for in the District — leaving your trash can out for too long. WTOP is reporting that the District can issue a $75 ticket if you leave your trash can out after 8 p.m. on collection day. Get busted four times and the penalty jumps to $1,000. But fear not, the city doesn’t have a roving patrol of trash can enforcers. It only responds to complaints by neighbors, so make sure you’re in good with the people on your block.
Even More Cuts for Metro: I’m not a transit reporter, but it seems that every time I look Metro is making more cuts to close up ever increasing budget gaps. The Examiner is reporting that Metro may have to cut service as part of a plan to save $40 million. The cuts — which would include shorter trains and longer wait times — would only be the beginning, though, as more significant measures may have to be implemented next July to help plug a $175 million gap.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2008, MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski was mugged in D.C. In 2007, Congress lifted the ban on using local funds for needle-exchange programs and the D.C. Council gave Michelle Rhee the power to fire non-union school employees.
