Adrian Fenty is asking if those of you who are out there braving the elements could please come inside now.

“With the storm upgraded to a Blizzard [Ed. Note: a slightly premature assessment on the part of Hizzoner], our snow team is reporting visibility in the District is very low,” said Mayor Fenty in a statement released via email. “While I recognize people want to get out and enjoy the snow, there is a significant safety concern as pedestrians are walking along city streets instead of sidewalks.”

“I am urging everyone to take extra precautions if you need to be out and if you do not, to please stay off the District roadways,” Fenty added.

The National Weather Service has upgraded the area to a Blizzard Warning due to increasingly poor visibility in the area. The NWS has also extended the already-in-effect Winter Storm Warning until 6 p.m. Sunday.
