The District has about 300 trucks currently working on the roads, according to statements made at a press conference this morning where Mayor Adrian Fenty and the directors of DPW and DDOT commented on the status of snow removal. The Mayor also reinforced that no one should be getting behind the wheel unless it was a crisis. “There should be absolutely no reason anyone should be on the streets,” urged Fenty.
Fenty was also optimistic about that the timing of this storm would allow snow crews to minimize the interruption to the District.
“It does appear, at least for now, that the timing for this amount snow is about as good as it gets,” observed the Mayor. “Everybody knows that if this was a work day, significant activities in the city would be paralyzed.”
DDOT director Gabe Klein also chimed in about the massive amount of work that is going in to the removal effort. DDOT has reserved lodging and extra food and supplies for its workers, who will be sticking in town to work extended shifts. “We’re going to have to run four, maybe five shifts in a row,” said Klein.
