It’s the big question of the day: what’s actually open for those of us who have been stuck inside all day and are suffering from serious cabin fever? DCist has confirmed the not-even-close-to-comprehensive list below — of course, with the snow coming still coming down, we highly recommend that you call individual destinations on your own before you make your way anywhere this evening.
Grocery stores: Hoo boy, grocers are going to be real hit-or-miss tonight. The Whole Foods on P Street closed very early today at noon. The Yes! Organic Market in Adams Morgan has closed, but some other branches of the market were open at last check — definitely call first and go sooner, rather than later. The Harris Teeter in Adams Morgan‘s phone message says they will be open until 11, but we couldn’t confirm with a real human, so tread carefully is, in fact, closed. The Giant in Columbia Heights will close at 8 p.m. tonight; we’ve heard that most Safeways and Giants will likely try and maintain somewhat normal hours tonight, but call first — stores will likely be closing slightly earlier than usual so that employees can get home safely, and DCist has received reports of the Safeway at 401 M Street SW closing despite the management telling customers they would be open until 11 p.m. We can also tell you that the Columbia Road Safeway will definitely close at 6 p.m. Godspeed you chilly shoppers!
Restaurants: Plenty of restaurants are open today, but there are some exceptions. Gallery Place is probably your safest bet if you absolutely need to eat out — Clyde’s seems like the only thing that’s closed, as most Chinese restaurants and chain restaurants are still serving food. Dino in Cleveland Park is closed. Potbelly’s and Five Guys in Columbia Heights are closed, but Pete’s Apizza is open — in fact, they were even delivering earlier today, but stopped after road conditions worsened. Commonwealth was quite packed earlier today; while RedRocks Pizzeria is hosting a party for those in the neighborhood overwhelmed by the snowpocalypse. El Tamarindo in Adams Morgan is open. Sticky Rice on H Street is closed, but Taylor Gourmet was serving until 7 at last check. Busboys and Poets (all locations), Tryst and The Diner are all keeping their doors open for those who are in need of caffeine after sledding or snowball throwing. Of course, Ben’s Chili Bowl is open — you expected anything less?
Also of note: Your entertainment options this evening are mostly on the fritz, but there are some troopers of note in DC9 and the Rock & Roll Hotel. DCUSA is closed, including Target, Best Buy, and Bed, Bath and Beyond. The movie theaters at Gallery Place and Georgetown are open, but we couldn’t confirm whether E Street is screening films today. Eastern Market was also open all day, but it closes at 6. The Black Cat opens tonight at 7, in case you feel like getting your groove on tweets to say that they will not be open tonight at all. Numerous bars all across the city — Little Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar, The Tune Inn, The Black Squirrel, and Room 11, among plenty of others — are ready to serve you libations. To check whether or not your tavern of choice has its doors open, give ’em a call.
Commenters: what are we missing from your neighborhood? Please use the comments to inform, educate, dispute, update, and the such. Most of all, do stay warm and safe if you choose to venture out into the snowy night.
