Well, most of what we recommended in last week’s agenda for this weekend was canceled. Obviously, until the snow situation is under control we recommend calling ahead if you must hear some music. The agenda goes on its annual winter hiatus for the next couple weeks, but the following picks should tide you over until we return. Anyway, get out there and enjoy the snow!
The Baltimore Consort>> If the snow plows can make the roads to Charm City passable by Monday, we want to hear the Baltimore Consort‘s Bright Day Star concert (December 21, 7:30 p.m.). After performing it in New York and other cities, the group comes to Baltimore’s Basilica of the Assumption, which is quite a setting.
>> The Virginia Virtuosi will give a free concert at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage on Monday (December 21, 7:30 p.m.). The program of music by Bergman, Corelli, Vaughan Williams, and Vivaldi, is called a Winter Solstice Celebration — holiday classics with a modern edge. You have been warned.
>> The biggest Messiah event of the month is the sing-along performance at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall, scheduled for Wednesday (December 23, 8 p.m.). This event is not for the faint of heart, as it involves waiting on line in the hope of getting one of the tickets distributed on the day of the performance.
>> Guitarist Sharon Isbin, who performed at the White House last month and received another Grammy nomination this month, will give a free concert next Sunday (December 27, 6:30 p.m.) at the National Gallery of Art. Show up at the Constitution Ave. entrance of the West Building (at 6th St. NW), earlier for the good seats.
