MUSIC: The Roots are playing sold-out shows tonight and tomorrow at the 9:30 Club. You know what to do.

For something free tonight, you can hear some indie music from the talented Clare Burson at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage at 6 p.m. or free choral music from Frederick Chorale at the Botanic Garden from 6 – 8 p.m.

And something somewhere in between free and pricey is the Future Times birthday party at the Velvet Lounge, featuring live sets upstairs and DJs downstairs — starting at 9 p.m. for $6.

JAZZ: Legendary pianist Ahmad Jamal plays at Blues Alley tonight and tomorrow for 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. sets. For $40, tickets for the 10 p.m. sets are still available.

MOVIE: The Washington Psychotronic Society screens Frankenpimp at The Warehouse at 8 p.m. for a $2 donation. Frankenpimp, put simply, is a colorful romp featuring a man trying to escape certain death at the hands of cybernetic goons while trying to track down the thief of his ancient, multi-million dollar voodoo ring. Plus a man-eating Astro-Queen, android sex-slave party girls, and a crazed South American god. You pretty much need to read more about this one to get the bigger picture.
