Photo by Mehan Jayasuriya Four months after she was struck and seriously injured by a now-fired Metrobus driver, Amanda Mahnke has filed suit against the District transit agency for $30 million, WTTG/FOX5 reports.
Mahnke was jogging near the intersection of Connecticut and Florida avenues NW on the morning of Sept. 3 when the driver, Carla Proctor, ran her over while operating Metrobus #4262, which was empty at the time. Mahnke suffered serious and life-threatening injuries, but ultimately survived the crash.
Proctor was eventually fired by the transit agency, and an investigation revealed she had a history of minor on the job accidents. She has not been charged with any criminal wrongdoing.
From FOX5:
The legal complaint says the driver “Carla Proctor was cited for several reckless motor vehicle violations as a WMATA employee but was not properly terminated, retrained and or supervised…”
That failure it later says, “Amounted to gross negligence…”
