The District Department of Transportation says two streets continue to be closed due to the earlier water main break this morning at 17th and P streets NW: 17th Street is closed between Q and P, and P Street is closed between 16th and 18th.
DDOT and DC WASA are on the scene, and DCist photographer Max Cook reports the rush of water appears to have slowed down a bit since this morning. The break was caused by a DDOT contractor that struck the 20″ main, which was installed in 1877, according to DC WASA spokesperson Alan Heymann. Water service in the area has not been affected thus far, Heymann said.
UPDATE 3:25 p.m.: DDOT says 17th and P streets NW have now reopened to traffic.
