MONDAY
>> Those walking around the U Street Monday might inadvertently feel the reverberations of noise-mongers Jucifer. The bone crushingly loud duo will take to The Cat backstage in an attempt to single-handedly sabotage what little hearing you have left. You’ve been warned. Sludge purveyors Salome open. $10, 9 p.m.

TUESDAY
>> After rock was declared dead in the late 90s, the music industry went hysterical for a loosely related group of bands who all had ‘the’ preceding their names. One of the best happened to be The Strokes, a suave bunch of New Yorkers who acted as if they were born with Camels lackadaisically dangling from their lips. Their reign at the top was brief, and after 2006’s misfire Last Impressions of Earth, its various members became busy with other things. These days, a new Strokes album is imminent but until then, lead singer Julian Casablancas’ Phrazes for The Young is an enjoyable apéritif. Get there early since the tour’s stage show is reportedly something to behold. Neon enthusiasts Tanlines warm up the 9:30 crowd by fiercely…remixing? $20, 7 p.m.

>> If 00s nostalgia only conjures memories of your 40s, perhaps reconnecting with funk soul survivors WAR at The Birchmere is a better fit? $45, 7:30 p.m.
