FRIDAY:

MUSIC: Sonic Circuits has assembled a triple bill of experimental jazz featuring bassoonist Dana Jessen‘s Rare Degree, saxophonist Perry Conticchio‘s Mindbreath Trio, and percussionist Rich O’Meara‘s Trio O. It all goes down at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. 8 p.m. $8.

The last time The Junior League Band and Justin Jones and The Driving Rain tried to play the 9:30 Club, they were forced to cancel, the city too preoccupied with shoveling or throwing snowballs. Tickets from December 19 show will be honored. $15, 8 p.m.

Big Bear Cafe plays host to some of North Carolina’s finest tonight, including Des Ark, Ben Davis & The Jett$ and Minor Stars. $5, 7 p.m.

ART: We imagine there’s a broad audience for Civilian Art Project’s new show, Don’t Look Now by George Jenne. The artist creates pieces that try to emulate how children discover truths through art; for example, through the creepy monster in scary movies. The movie set, sort of, is what you’ll walk through at the gallery, complete with a “spectral pirate” and “exploding heads.” Reception runs 7 to 9 p.m.

COMEDY: The Velvet Lounge seems to be having consistent luck in booking some of the more interesting young comics coming out of New York these days. Tonight’s 3 Chord features SNL writer Ryan Conner, plus Jason Weems, Jimmy Meritt, Will Hessler and Bentzen Ball vet Eli Sairs. $4, 7-9 p.m.
