MOVIE: Film|Neu 2010, the Goethe-Institut’s annual showcase of German film, opens today and runs through Jan. 28 at the Landmark E Street Cinemas. Tonight’s opening night selection is Berlin Calling, Hannes Stöhr’s 2008 film set in the club culture of Berlin about a successful DJ dealing with mental illness. At 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m., plus a q&a with cast member Araba Walton following the 7 p.m. screening. $10, tickets available here.

SPORTS: The Arenas-less Wizards are struggling to get fans in the seats at the Verizon Center, but if you check out their showdown with Dwayne Wade and the Heat tonight, you can also help out D.C.’s homeless newspaper, Street Sense. Click on one of these two links to access special discounted tickets to tonight’s 7 p.m. game (use the offer code “StreetSense”), from which a portion of the proceeds will go directly the Street Sense. As a special bonus, for every 20 tickets that are sold, a Street Sense vendor will get to attend the game for free. $30-$60.

ART: Honfleur Gallery has a fortuitously timed exhibit for those of you feeling the charitable need to do more for those less fortunate. Their new exhibit, Stories, features three photographers who’ve traveled to various African countries to document issues like child soldiers and refugees from nations in conflict. The photographs provide a narrative context to raise awareness of the problems; proceeds from the exhibit go to the International Lifeline Fund. The Gallery at Vivid Solutions, around the corner from Honfleur, will hold an extension of the exhibit. Both open tonight at 7 p.m.

JAZZ: Saxophonist Tedd Baker is most often seen playing with the Airmen of Note, the premiere jazz ensemble of the U.S. Air Force. He will be leading his own band tonight and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets to the 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets are $15.

MUSIC: Homegrown experimental label Sockets Records is a hosting a showcase of its best talent at the Black Cat tonight, featuring The Cornel West Theory, HUME, Imperial China, Buildings, and New York’s Big Gold Belt. $12, 9 p.m.

D.C. soul songstress Green Tea is looking to put out more material in the immediate future and is starting with the release of her Beautiful Weirdo mixtape. Joining her at Liv will be Sol Elder. $10 in advance/$15 at the door, 7:30 p.m.

The “Our World, Our People” show benefiting Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti is at The Warehouse Loft (411 New York Ave. NE) tonight, and features a massive line-up of performers including, but by no means limited to, Mz. Mimz, Daron Forbes, The Golden Girl Tribe, and headliner Tabi Bonney. $5, 8 p.m.
