For all the iPhone users out there, a heads up: Gothamist has just released its first iPhone app, dubbed “Istaverse.” You can download it free from iTunes here.

There’s a couple things about the application that you should know. For one, the “Istaverse” app is really designed for our readers who like to keep tabs on more than one of the -Ist cities at a time. If you only ever want to read DCist, you can still use this app, but it’s a bit more limited than our mobile site. For example, you can’t read the comments on the Istaverse app. But if you’re looking for an easy way to check what’s on DCist, then Gothamist, then LAist on a daily basis, this is a great tool for you. And it’s free, so you don’t exactly have much to lose.
There’s also a couple of tiny bugs in this version of the app that we already know about, and the -Ist lab rats are already working on an update, so take that into consideration as you fool around with it.
And lastly, we’re told the DCist-specific iPhone app will be ready soon. It’ll also be free, and will probably be more like what most of you will want to use. We’ll be sure to tell you all about it once it’s available. In the meantime, feel free to download the Istaverse app, or continue to access DCist’s mobile version from any smartphone.
