President Barack Obama will attend today’s marquee NCAA game, Georgetown vs. Duke, but Obama already shined in the best game of the weekend — POTUS vs. House GOP. In a rare, televised event, Obama slam-dunked over House Republicans, stealing the narrative from the right and showing that he’s clutch.
The Hill nabbed a few defensive counterpoints after the event from some anonymous staff aides who have all anyway since been fired. In fact, what House Republicans were feeling was demoralized. This makes sense given that they are the hobgoblins of Congress. People only care about the centrist Senate Democrats. But to have the leader of the free world come all the way to Baltimore to put that in your face, using reason, at your own office retreat? One House Republican even told Luke Russert that it was a mistake to televise the event at all.
Barack Obama, who has probably been listening to that Onyx song nonstop since the White House beat up the Right House — I know that is what I would do — will join a number of other celebrities at today’s game. Ballers like could-be Washington Wizard Tracy McGrady and UN Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Alexander Aleinikoff will be in attendance. The game is a benefit for education programs in the Darfur region of Sudan. If only Georgetown were playing Xavier, the House Minority Leader’s alma mater.
