Photo courtesy Miss America. Not too shabby a Saturday night for a pair of local ladies at the 2010 Miss America Pageant. Miss Virginia — the alliterative Caressa Cameron of Fredricksburg, who, by the way, is also the reigning Miss Arlington — took home the top prize, which includes a $50,000 scholarship along with the symbolic crown and sash. Cameron beat out a pre-med ballet dancer from California, which sure seems like an upset. (Far be it from me, though, to claim any ability to accurately handicap beauty pageants.)
In addition to Miss Virginia’s triumph, Miss District of Columbia Jennifer Corey made it to the semi-finals and matched 2008 Miss D.C. Kate Grinold’s performance with a Top 10 finish. Though she fell three cuts short of being the first Miss D.C. since Venus Ramey in 1944 to take the crown, Reliable Source’s coverage of Corey’s pageant experience leaves us plenty proud, despite the fact that Corey’s the ninth Miss D.C. in the last 13 years to not actually call the District her hometown. Just look at that huge hot fudge sundae! That’s a Miss America candidate we can really get behind.
