Mayor Adrian Fenty just finished addressed the media from outside the Reeves Center, reinforcing his plea that “if you can avoid being out right now, please do so.”
“We probably have about 20 inches. There are some places where our official measurements are over 20,” Fenty said. “If we get eight inches more, we’re right about at the official record.”
Fenty reminded everyone that all government buildings and DPR facilities are closed today.
Fenty made a note of the pure manpower that the city has out and about to deal with the snow. “We have…a full deployment of snow fighters by the Department of Public Works,” said Fenty. “This means over 250 trucks, which are out plowing as much snow as humanly possible…we have over 750 employees dedicated to nothing else but clearing the road.”
District Department of Transportation director Gabe Klein added that “even if you have a four-wheel drive, [being out is] just not a good idea.”
“We are fortunate to have this happen on the weekend,” Fenty admitted.
