As the second big belt of snow moves its way though the District, most of what we mentioned yesterday as far as what’s open and closed this weekend still stands. Of course, it’s advisable that you call ahead to individual establishments to confirm before you venture out. Here’s a collection of information we were able to cobble together at this hour:
>> Tonight’s Washington Wizards game at the Verizon Center has been postponed, the first NBA game to be canceled due to weather since 2006. Ticket exchange information can be found here.
>> The Rock and Roll Hotel and DC9 is canceling tonight’s show. More information on the ticket situation should be available both clubs’ websites at some point. The Black Cat says that they’ll be open tonight from 8 p.m. until 12:30 a.m, but the Haiti Benefit show has been moved to February 24. There’s conflicting reports about the status of tonight’s KIDS dance party at DC9 — we’ve got a call and an email into the club and will update when we can confirm the status.
>> WJLA reports that “a Giant Food spokesperson says all of the company’s stores in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia are open Saturday and will remain open as long as customers have safe access.” We’ve heard that most grocery stores, including Harris Teeter on Kalorama Road, the Whole Foods on P Street [sorry, the Whole Foods is closed], and most Safeways (the 14th Street SE branch aside) are open today. Whether you’ll be able to actually find what you need, well, that’s another story altogether. Area 7-11s and Cork Market are also open.
>> All Smithsonian museums and the National Zoo are closed. But you’ve got to admire the moxie of the people at the Newseum, whose staff “spent the night in the building” so that they could stay open all day today. Also, the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial are closed to visitors today.
