Considering our city is the country’s most Democratic jurisdiction and will likely soon become a same-sex marriage destination, we applaud the courage of the conservative movement for once again holding its biggest annual conference inside the District of Columbia.
Yes, it’s that time of year again — the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, kicks off tomorrow at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Woodley Park. Featuring a bevy of prominent conservative speakers, luminaries and activists (there’s even a jam session with right-wing rappers!), the conference will set the tone for a movement and party that is feeling emboldened in its fight for the soul of America. Pretty much everyone will be there, from John Bolton to Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.) to Ann Coulter to House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner (R-Oh.).
And Glenn Beck, of course. Beck, the fiery right-wing commentator, will give a closing speech on Saturday evening, where he’s sure to warn the thousands of attendees of the coming collapse of the union under President Obama’s socialist leadership. So if you see hordes of antsy yet well-dressed white men asking passers-by where they can buy gold, it might because Beck just got done scaring the living crap out of them.
And though brunch at Open City on Saturday is sure to be even bigger a clusterf**k than it usually is, we’re happy that this many conservatives will be pumping their hard-earned dollars into our local, left-leaning economy.
