MUSIC: If you had your hopes set on a sanguine night of music courtesy Surfer Blood at DC9, we hope you bought a ticket ahead of time (as it’s now sold out). But perhaps St. Vincent can satisfy your lust when she performs her latest single, “Laughing with a Mouth Full of Blood,” just around the corner at the 9:30 Club. There are still tickets available for that one. $15, 7 p.m.

Or, act fast and email membership (at) artsclubofwashington (dot) org to catch today’s Three Stars-featured artist, Matthew Hemerlein at 5:30 p.m.

And for a third and final musical suggestion (this is what happens when Sommer lets the music editor put About Tonight together), we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Haiti benefit at the Black Cat, featuring The State Department, Tennis System, Nunchucks and Honey House. Great bands, all of them, and for a good cause (proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders). $10, backstage, 8 p.m.

FILM: The Smithsonian dovetails nicely with AFI’s Clint Eastwood retrospective with their screening of A Fistfull of Dollars, which our own Ian Buckwalter describes as “one of the definitive performances from Eastwood as an actor.” 6:30 p.m. at the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum. Free.

READING: Capitals owner Ted Leonsis discusses his new book, The Business of Happiness, at Sixth and I at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12, or free if you arrange to buy the book from Politics & Prose.

SPORTS: Canada and Russia might just have the two most fantastically talented ice hockey teams on the planet, and watching those powerhouses go head-to-head in Vancouver is a good enough reason for any sports fan to be glued to a television tonight at 7:30 p.m. But for us Washingtonians, the titanic elimination matchup is more: a chance to watch our boys Ovechkin, Semin, and Varlamov knock that no-good Sidney Crosby off his perch for the third time this year. The Red and the Black offers $3 Yuenglings during the match, though we’re sure any watering hole with a television in this currently hockey-crazed town will be featuring the game.
