- A teacher at Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown has been ordered to apologize to a 13-year-old student after punishing and humiliating the student for refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, the Post reports. The teacher’s actions were in clear violation of federal and state law, and the ACLU quickly got involved to advocate for the student.
- Maryland’s Attorney General has issued an opinion that he believes same-sex marriages performed legally in other jurisdictions are valid in Maryland, WTOP reports. Could be big news for Maryland’s gays, who could easily become legally married in the District in early March.
- City Desk and D.C. Wire both cover a presser from Barry confidant Rev. Anthony Motley, who says he is resigning from his post as president of the JOBS Coalition in the wake of the Bennett report. Motley is still running for an At-large seat on the D.C. Council, however.
- Former Vice President Dick Cheney is back at home after suffering a fifth heart attack earlier this week. He was being treated, as he so often has been, at George Washington University Hospital.
- Nice tidbit from Metrocurean: newish Logan hot spot Birch & Barley will start serving Sunday brunch on Feb. 28. “And even better? The new Sunday brunch will be served all day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.”
