DC Food For All shares the news that a new farmers market planned for Columbia Heights will happen on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and kick off on June 5.

The day of the week was chosen after soliciting community input in the form of an online survey. More respondents and potential vendors preferred Saturdays.

In addition to area produce growers and other typical farmers market fare, organizers are looking to line up local chefs to perform cooking demonstrations. Live music and other forms of entertainment, including a youth dance troupe, will also be regular features of the weekly event.

The market, formally dubbed the Columbia Heights Community Marketplace, will take place at the recently completed Columbia Heights Civic Plaza, at the intersection of 14th and Kenyon streets and Park Road NW. It’ll run from June through October 30.

Potential volunteers or those with suggestions are asked to email chcommunitymarketplace[at]gmail.com.
