MUSIC: A benefit show for D.C. Does TX, the District’s music scene’s annual outing to SXSW, is set for tonight at the Austin Grill in Old Town Alexandria. Cover is $5, and includes local favorites Middle Distance Runner, Deleted Scenes, Beanstalk Library and Typefighter. 9:30 p.m.
ART: ReadysetDC continues its new venture to put more alternative art events on in the city. Join them at the District Lounge for two events: first learn about The Art of the Blog with guests Dan Silverman of Prince of Petworth and David Garber of And Now, Anacostia (6 to 8 p.m.), then the first of a new art series, Gallery at the District, featuring work by No Kings Collective and music by Fatback (8 to 10 p.m.)
MOVIE: Tonight through Sunday at National Geographic’s Grosvenor Auditorium, catch all of the Foreign Film Academy Award Nominees. Visit their site for the complete schedule. $8 per film, or $35 for all five.
JAZZ: Powerful tenor saxophonist J.D. Allen cut his teeth playing with legendary vocalist Betty Carter, and has also spent a lot of time as a sideman in New York’s fertile jazz scene.
