Make sure to note the weekend and weeknight Metro track maintenance schedules for the month of March, available from WMATA online.

The weeknight picture continues to be a hodgepodge of delays — these sorts of advisories don’t appear to be going away any time soon. Look for continued Red Line delays Sunday through Thursday nights between Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore starting at 8 p.m.; Blue Line delays Sunday through Thursday nights between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant starting at 9:30 p.m., plus March 22-23 between Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street starting at 8 p.m.; and Orange Line delays March 8-9 between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA starting at 8 p.m.

The weekends will also present challenges, though thankfully all work will be suspended March 26-28 for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. This coming weekend, Friday, March 5, to Sunday, March 7, marks the beginning of the aforementioned work on the Orange Line between Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA. Delays of up to 30 minutes will result from welding work on the tracks, which will force trains to share one track from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Every other Orange Line train heading toward Vienna/Fairfax-GMU will also terminate at West Falls Church-VT/UVA and return to New Carrollton.

March 12-14 will see more of the ongoing Red Line work between Fort Totten and Silver Spring for track circuit upgrades. Trains will share one track starting at 10 p.m. that Friday and continue to closing on Sunday. And on the Blue Line, work between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road-Seat Pleasant will similarly cause delays from 10 p.m. Friday to closing on Sunday

And finally the Red Line upgrade between Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore will pick back up at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 19 through to closing on Sunday, March 21.
